Frequently asked questions
Which tools can we recondition? What does our tool reconditioning service include? Is it worth applying PVD coating to a metal cutting tool?
Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions about tool design and manufacturing, tool reconditioning, PVD coating and tool recycling.

Yes, we provide tool reconditioning services for tools from other manufacturers. The service includes both resharpening and PVD coating. Collection and return using our service car are included in the service package.

We recondition a wide range of metal cutting tools, including drills, end mills, thread taps, reamers, gear shaper cutters, hobs, broaches, countersinks and boring tools.
Each tool is carefully inspected before reconditioning.

A tool lifecycle model means managing metal cutting tools as a complete process, from design to tool reconditioning, PVD coating and recycling. The aim is to maximise tool life, performance and cost-efficiency throughout the entire lifecycle.
A lifecycle approach is also a sustainable choice. It reduces the need for new tools and lowers the overall carbon footprint of each tool.

Our tool reconditioning service includes a full tool condition inspection, resharpening and PVD coating. If required, the old coating is removed before resharpening. Each service is tailored to the tool type and the customer’s requirements.
Tools can also be labelled with stickers and laser marked during the process.
Our dedicated service car collects and returns tools to the customer free of charge. We also provide tool boxes to make sending tools for reconditioning as easy as possible.

Our service car operates across several regions in Finland, including Central Finland, Pirkanmaa, Southern Finland, Southeast Finland, Southwest Finland, Ostrobothnia and Eastern Finland. Collection and return by our service car are included in our reconditioning service.
Tools can also be sent to us by post or courier. Please get in touch, and we will find the most suitable logistics solution for your tool reconditioning needs.

We inspect every tool received for reconditioning and assess its condition carefully. If a tool is deemed beyond repair, this is recorded in the order details and shown in the order confirmation.
If the tool is found to be beyond repair during the resharpening stage, the information is noted on the delivery note and invoice. Depending on the agreement with the customer, such tools are either returned marked accordingly or scrapped by us.

Yes. Professionally carried out tool reconditioning restores the tool’s performance to at least the level of a new tool and can even improve its functionality.

Yes. Recoating is almost always recommended. Even previously uncoated tools should generally be coated during reconditioning, unless there is a specific reason not to, such as the material being machined.
PVD coating is an essential part of achieving optimal performance in metal cutting tools, including reconditioned ones.

All tool coating is performed in our own PVD coating department at our facilities in Tikkakoski. We are the only manufacturer of special metal cutting tools in Finland with an in-house PVD coating unit.
We use PVD coating units from Swiss manufacturer Platit AG, along with the latest coating technologies.

Yes. We offer shelving and inventory services that ensure tools are readily available when needed. This helps maintain continuity in your production.

Yes. Recycling offers clear financial benefits, as carbide scrap in particular has a high resale value. At the same time, it reduces the carbon footprint of your tools and supports a more sustainable approach.
If you have a batch of carbide or HSS scrap you would like to sell for recycling, please send us a request for quotation.

The price paid for carbide scrap varies, as it is based on global market prices—particularly tungsten and cobalt. These are continuously influenced by industrial demand, raw material availability, and global market conditions.
Please send us a request for quotation, and we will provide you with a price based on the current market level.

JR-Tools stands out from many traditional tool suppliers through its comprehensive approach. We do not only offer individual products or tool reconditioning, but a fully managed lifecycle model covering everything from design to recycling.
Under one roof, we provide tool design, manufacturing, tool reconditioning, PVD coating, logistics and tool recycling. This creates a clearer overall solution and makes tool cost management easier for the customer.
